The Pug…
the little dog that is now famous! Thanks to the Vodafone commercials (Check the link at the end of this post.) These commercials have somehow managed to convey that pugs are the most loyal of all canines! What tripe!
All dogs are loyal…all dogs follow those they love…all dogs try to help their human families! Unfortunately, this popular commercial is popularizing pugs as the only dogs who do these things. I have nothing against pugs…they are cute and cuddly, and I am sure that they have all the nice qualities that all dogs have! I am more concerned about the pug-love wave, which has hit India, thanks to this commercial.
Do you know what has happened?
Pugs are now being sold for about 50K INR, which is a lot of money! In India, this would be approximately two month’s salary for an Engineer! The problem once again, isn’t with the price tag, but with the fact that there is a price tag! This price tag has made the little pug a status symbol for many.
So am I jealous?
You know me. Am I the kind who’d be jealous of another dog’s fame? No, I absolutely am not jealous! I am worried. There are hundreds of thousands of street pups in India who would love to find a home, who could be saved from dying on the streets, and who could be adopted for free! Instead, pugs are being smuggled into India…so that they may be sold for a profit!
I would call it disgustingly inhuman conduct!
And I am also worried about Vodafone…it looks like their target customer is falling in love with the pug, instead of falling in love with Vodafone! Hey Vodafone, your advertising dollar is working hard for the pug-sellers. Have you signed a collaboration agreement with them? How I wish your advertising company had thought of showing an adopted street-pup in that commercial!
Let us forget Vodafone and their faux pas!
If you know someone who is likely to fall for the pug ruse, please act! Ask them to adopt a cute street pup. If you want to know how cute they can be, check out the canidoscope…or why go far…look at your own little Oorvi!
PS: Here’s one of the advertisements that I’ve been talking about! Thanks YouTube!

Stumble Oorvi's Diary!

Ya know Oorvi,
Ya certainly are right in askin’ people ta adopt street dogs instead of spendin’ their precious money on a Pug. We can hardly stand here sayin’ we would never do such a thing ’cause Gram sure likes a particular breed of dog….namely us terriers…. and most likely wouldn’t have any other. But all the hype caused by movies and commercials featurin’ a particluar breed causes a new type of street dog ta join the ranks of the others…..a pure breed street dog…and in this case a Pug…..
People see these movies and watch those commercials ‘n the next thin’ ya know they’re out buyin’ one of those cute precious little doggies that they saw there. They get ‘em home and find out they are just too much ta handle or just don’t fit inta their lifestyle. And either they take ‘em ta the doggie shelter or they just open the door ‘n let ‘em out inta the street.
That happened when the movie 101 Dalmations came out…people were flyin’ all over the place lookin’ fer Dalmations. Now Dalmations are pretty hard ta handle sometimes….why Pap had one when he was a kid and the doggie ate his Dad’s false teeth one night. Pap says the dog was wild….they just didn’t know how ta handle her…..’n she ended up bein’ placed on a farm so she could run like she needed to.
Why here in the states, they say ya can pretty much find every pure breed represented at yer local shelter…… That’s why rescue organizations keep a watchful eye out fer the doggies appearin’ on Pet Finder…did ya ever look at that? If they see one of their breed on the site, they arrange fer someone ta go get ‘em and then they screen people ta see if they can find a great forever home fer the little buggers. Those doggies get a second lease on life.
Now maybe in India, anyone who spends that much money fer a Pug, might think twice about openin’ the door ‘n lettin’ the little guy out….but ya never know…cause some people here pay a ton of money ‘n they do it all the time.
So, Oorvi…..keep yer eyes open mate, cause ya might be out walkin’ someday ‘n see a pack of Pugs roamin’ the neighborhood…’n I bet they won’t have a Vodaphone with ‘em either…..

Rescue or the shelter are the ways to go…..We got to our Mom by Airedale Rescue……
People think too much about the cutiness factor and not about the dog…..And when they get tired of the pups or pick out a place to live that doesn’t allow pups DUMP DUMP DUMP…
If you come upon a pack of Pugs – you just yell for the Dales…
We’ve got Dales ALL OVER !!!

In Australia the trendy dog of the moment is a Malamute, could you get a dog less suited to our conditions and so many are ending up in rescue pounds… I think its irresponsible of a company like Vodaphone to exploit a breed like that… if they need a dog, use a mutt…they are just as cute and gorgeous

Sasha and Dexter both have their stories.
Sasha was found wandering on the road near Cordeaux Dam, one of the Sydney/Wollongong metropolitan water storages. She was advertised in our local paper, and was driven to our front gate. I think that was about seven years ago.
Dexter was found on the street and taken to our local vet where he was spotted and brought home. We took him on, and keep him despite his been a handful. He still likes jumping fences, and goes at them, when he is of a mind, with great determination.
It is always sad to hear about animals that are turned out of their homes, who cannot find one.
